Past among generations through silent whispers to limbs,
accepting the commands,
moving to the thumps of drums.
The rattling heap of sliding beads echo the droplets of rain as it persist to break the common ground.

He meant no harm... he had no choice.
Guided by something more mammoth than he.
his words were accompanied by seamless gestures
painful yet satisfactory it seemed.
he gave and we received the words,
messages so pure, so true.

There was no harm to be felt...
just a silent remedy for your soul,
an added spice for your bones,
a key to unbar you to hear.
It is no longer the unknown,
no longer something to fear.
no longer the secret that you will never hear.

The posture of holding, grasping, to not release, knowing that your life and the life of the ones you love depends on it. When the weight pulls at your muscles and they strain for release, for ease, you clench. You check your posture making sure nothing slides, not a thought, not a finger, nothing! And if the strain of time takes it toll, you stand as a tree, fearless as storm winds pressures you to dance, you stand with the unwavering determination to be like a tree with roots planted way beyond where the wind sweeps. Your grasp like blown glass stretch to a point, though thin 'stand' connected.

"Gros Islet drummer"

A few paint buckets of varied sizes, paired with old aluminum hub caps tied together by pieces of rope, resting on a make shift wooden frame. This described the instrument of choice for the "Gros Islet drummer"

A man that have obviously moved to a higher place of musical exploits. As i watch him mimic the the rhythms strumming from the speakers of the weekly friday night lime in Gros Islet, i felt intrigue. To many passing by he was just another person of unsound mind.

I however saw someone who really is expressing his interpretation of the music... an escape to a place where rhythm and vibrations rule, maybe for him it was not conscious, but it was honest. The way he was flashing those drum sticks, always keeping the rhythm and of course making sure those looking on were entertained by his showmanship. I thought about all those people who were judging him and whether they were using their talents that were given to them... did they have that passion that this man showed.

Weed...
drug or stimuli for creativity. The x factor for inspiration.

Many list the damaging effects and even more can list it's potential but what is sure is that it has a major effect on those who partake in the ritual of smoking it. I cannot draw from experience myself but i can use that of others.
Think about the many musicians that wrote masterpieces while under the influence of weed and how those songs have influence generations, positively. We quote their words, mimic their philosophies to reach a place close to their genius. I like the smell of weed. I however choose to be stimulated by other things, which in some sense create the same creative impulse.

What do we see when we look at ourselves. How do we feel from what we hear... do we share?
Man needs to control his environs. Capture something and make it a spectacle to put on show, showing their dominance. Gorillas are very similar to man for we are from them. I stood there looking at these animals in captivity. They looked sad... a wanting to be free like we humans be. What if the best of us is in these animals. What are we doing to ourselves?

Think about the best arranged music you have ever heard or the most compelling words ever spoken. Imagine how you felt when you first came across this new... thing. The emotions they triggered. Thats how i felt when i was shooting this model. I knew i was on to something. An exploration of imagery, the human image, unspoiled and honest. They tell stories to those who will listen and tease the blind. I wonder how many other stories will be told in the near future.

Panorama

The sun was scorching hot... the air was still.
In the distance you could hear laughter and music all mixed up.

This was my first panorama, so I was looking forward to the celebration of steel pan. This beauiful instrument that was invented and made popular in Trinidad and Tobago.

As I stepped into the venue all I could see were people with coolers umbrellas, and of course rum. To the extreme end I heard 'THE PAN'.

As I got closer I realized it was a separate section where I could not enter nor could I take pictures. DAMN! All I could see really was the back of the steel bands.

The culture of sitting around and chatting was kind of difficult to get use to, as it didn’t give me for much visual appeal. I continued on browsing around, looking for that thing that will make me pull out my camera.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!
As if my heart was attached to a speaker box, I heard a sound. It felt familiar. A pulsating rhythm made up of drums and metal pounding with an horn section screaming out.
THE RHYTHM TOOK OVER.

People seem to be floating towards the sound. It felt tribal, like a calling from ancestors, it gave me a sense of belonging. It was my music, the rhythm of drums and chanting. It was what I needed to capture.

Carnival 08

When you speak of carnival you think of the very elaborate costumes and the colours, the freedom and joy that the music brings to the masqueraders. This year I wanted to capture other sides to the this yearly spectacle. Expressions that didn't reflect the usual.

Tobago the smaller of twins, "Trinidad and Tobago"
If I were to describe them both, I would say Trinidad is the popular, outspoken, fast paced, energetic of the two. Tobago is very shy, peaceful, has nicer features, unexplored(smile). Together they pack a punch beauty and style!
At this moment i am giving you a taste of my journey to Tobago. Enjoy!

I love to watch water droplets forming. The shapes seem so solid, almost like it could keep its form... like blown glass. But that is in a split of a second. It makes you want to try and touch it even though you know it will just spread to whatever surface it comes in contact with. Light gives it that feeling of weightlessness. Depending on the force that, a little wind, so many things that can change the way the shapes are. A total marvel I think.

Its' a calm day and as the sun went down, I witness gods divine beauty. Looking as the light was turned down behind the clouds, I was reminded of how amazing that sight is and how lucky I was being able to capture it.

SEXY BOTTLE & WATER

There is this bottle I have been admiring for a while now. Its' very unique shape is accented with a gold string that complimented the colour of the bottle. Although it was a really a nice bottle, I really didn’t what to just shoot it as is. Fine it would have given me the opportunity to play around with composition but I wanted to do more. Other than the string at the top there wasn’t much contrast to its naturally smooth lines.
What to do ... what to do?
I once did a series of portraits of my family against a textured wall and that I found was very successful. The skin worked well against the wall. But while shooting the bottle the flow took me in a different direction.

GRENADA WEEKEND

Rest is an important part of surviving in advertising. Many have failed to see its importance and ended up in jail or the mad house. Grenada was my escape for a weekend and I loved it. Sleep came easily there. (Smile)

As a sat there trying to get a shot that didn’t include the plane wing, I thought of my land, my home SWEET SWEET JAMAICA... the most blessed place on earth.

'Long time de I no touch dung,' well it hasn’t been that long... 4 months or so but it felt like more.

While I kept shooting at the wing on the left of the airplane and the clouds that seem
to cushion it, my mind drifted to the things I was looking forward to see and touch again (smile). Family and loved ones, the landscape, my favourite tree, my favourite smile. With all those images in my head, all I could shoot was this wing.
At least a got the window!
I would have nothing to do for the 7 hours if not for the window and the view. YES 7 hours and Trinidad jus roun de corner
(if you think of the larger scale of things).

Earlier this year I ventured to Trinidad’s north coast. I was told that it had some of the most breathtaking views on the island.

Chicken pox. Still in disbelief that I have it, even after seeing bumps coming up. I was hoping it was something else, with lesser consequences. So now i am under quarantine and working from home. Thats the life... lol. This has been and interesting sickness. Makes you very uncomfortable but test your discipline. 'To scratch or not to scratch'
So I have started balancing off work with little spurts of photography.
